Plantronics introduced the CS50 in 2001 and has sold millions of units. It features a configurable headset that can be worn on either ear using a stable and comfortable Over-the-Head style or a less intrusive On-the-Ear option (with three sizes of comfortable "earloops"). There is also an optional Behind-the-Neck kit which combines the stability and comfort of the Over-the-Head model with the unobtrusiveness of the On-the-Ear.

The amplifier and base station doubles as a charging station for the headset, and also provides a place to connect the two optional accessories for this unit.

The Online Indicator flashes a bright and visible light when you are engaged on a call, signaling to your co-workers that you shouldn't be interrupted.

The HL10 Handset Lifter adds the option to answer incoming calls while away from your desk, by sounding a gentle beep in your ear when the line rings and prompting you to connect the call, by simply pressing a button on the headset itself. The Handset Lifter physically removes the receiver from its cradle and holds it for the duration of the call. Pressing the same button on the headset returns the receiver to its cradle, and ends the call.
